Riverside

16.65 miles/26.64km total.

Rode the 9 miles along the riverside this morning. Really lovely but had to get off a couple places and carry it over some pebble beach bits where the riverside has collapsed. Its pretty much narrow singletrack or just trackless all the way. Lochan an Uaine (as I've named it as it is an iridescent green on sunny days) has frozen over completely now. Stopped awhile at a fishermans bothy to watch the sunrise. Herons gliding over the water (above pic), buzzards sat on fence posts waiting for breakfast to scuttle past, Red Kites soaring above...just a great way to start the day. We'd more snow overnight so in places its kinda getting a bit hard and its like swimming through the stuff but closer to the river its only about 3 inches deep. Its all good though. My thighs are the size of pumpkins!

7.5 miles back home along a different route tonight and it was just a 'get home quick' job to be honest. Its absolutely baltic out there just now, a real insidious cold that creeps in through your toes even though I was working hard ploughing through the snow. Am off to stand under shower for 30 mins to defrost.

Oh yeah and I mentioned a while back I had a plan to learn more about bikes? In another month to 6 weeks (basically once the weather is better) I start one afternoon a week at the local bike shop learning up as a bike mechanic.
