Caisteal na Caillich and Conachcraig

Ah...

You know I completely forgot I had this blog until I found the details on my flickr site this morning. Its made a good read though - strange to observe ones thoughts and emotions from nearly a year ago!

Its now 2009! (Happy New Year folks) and I guess its time for an update. Well, still married to the gorgeous OH, Daughter left home, got engaged and is now 28 weeks pregnant and getting married in two weeks, middle son spent Christmas in Dubai and is a chef de partie in a hotel up north, eldest son is working in a supermarket and still playing in a band. Youngest son and the only child remaining here (sob..) is approaching three years old and is as cute as they come. He calls everyone 'honey' including his dad which is odd, but hilarious.

I, well what am I doing now? Was I still in shipping the last time? Well, I went back to it though in a slightly differing role from previous Ops based stuff.  Commercial Manager - lots of travel, money, dining out, entertaining.

Bloody hated it.

Oh I was good at it and the company was great but I was spending too much time in the office for my liking and not enough time on the boats. So, sticking to my promise to self that I would not stay somewhere that was making me unhappy ever again (for whatever reason), I left. No hard feelings either side which was great and am still friends with one of the directors.

I am now back at the Deli and also doing forestry work for NTS and helping OH with our engineering company (which, I can happily report) has gone from strength to strength) - so have managed to finally, finally, FINALLY be employed to do the three things I love - talk to people about food, forestry and big bits of subsea kit/ships. And, the best bit? I'm doing it all and still have a couple of afternoons a week to myself! I know I appear slightly smug so I do apologise, its not meant like that. I am happy and for that I'm not apologising - with my extra time available, I'm back to hillwalking (I got seriously back into bouldering for a while - even to local competitions!) but developed tendonitis in elbow so not climbing at the moment. Not that I'm actually missing it that much. Miss my climbing partner(s) but thats about it. I also have time to see friends, cook and bake and get the vegetable garden here off the ground. Oh yes, still have chickens and we've rescued some as well so they should be arriving shortly.

And photography. I am off the tablets completely and my photo-mojo has come back! Hurrah! I am currently trying to just get proficient at a few styles but having serious fun!

And I got my landrover. Finally. After selling my Series III truckcab, there's been a major hole in my vehicular life. I attempted to fill it with a sporty black Clio (ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa) which, while I was working in town was smart and nippy and still did 45+mph despite it being a 1.6. But it lacked soul and when I sold it not long ago, I shed not one tear.

Mainly because sat in our courtyard was my new Landrover 90! Those who know me know that I detest the new Landrovers with a passion. Ugly boxes. No, show me a Series or well, any of the earlier ones and I am a happy woman. Not had a 90 before and despite the first of them having quite a few 'issues', I wanted one. Quite by random chance I got talking to a couple who happened to have one SORN'd but in reasonable nick and willing to part with it!

Here she is with her head off. So far she's needed:

  • Some patching on the chassis
  • New fuel tank (split along one side) and fuel lines.
  • 2 new tyres
  • couple engine parts (plugs, gaskets etc)
  • New headlights - I went for sealed beam but within two days one had popped so will replace with summat else I think!

Not bad for an old girl eh! She is booked for MOT on 12th but we're having problems getting fuel tank so this may have to be postponed. Anyway, doesn't matter - rather take my time than rush and make mistakes so at the moment limited to driving up and down the track. How geeky am I :D.

OH also bought another one. Series III... that makes now one old rangie V8s, one Discovery V8, two Series III and a 90. And a Freelander but we don't talk about that or the L200.. and incidentally, we don't run all the landies at once. Some are pure trialers (the Disco is being Dakar'd) and the Rangie is for Sundays lol!

Right well its 10am so I am going to get dressed as we are off to Ballater.
